Kia Soul's drove into Ambient for display

“A group of really cool people got together to celebrate Music, Film, Design, Entrepreneur Spirit and Gaming. We call them The Soul Collective and they are…”

Kia Motors kicked off  its Soul Collective project last week in Atlanta at the Ambient PlusStudio – Atlanta’s only full daylight studio. The people over at Ambient turned their 10,000 square foot studio into a entire weekend place to party by adding a full sized stage for their live music event, creating a giant chessboard dance floor, converting a freight elevator into a functioning bar, and of course using their roll-in access to bring in the actual Kia vehicles.

The quote above is from Kia’s Soul Collective project site where you can find out more information 10 city tour that started in September in D.C., continuing in Boston this weekend, and finally ending up in LA this November. The tour is celebrating Kia Motors and some of their favorite musicians, filmmakers, designers, entrepreneurs, and individuals in the gaming industry. Each Sunday of their weekend events Kia features bands and music artists such as St. Vincent (who just play

ed last Sunday at Ambient in Atlanta), GMT, Silversun Pickups and Santigol, and the only way to snag some tickets is test driving the Kia-Soul itself.

The culmination of the Kia Soul Collective at Ambient was a performace by indie singer St. Vincent.  All that was required for tickets was a simple test drive in the new Kia Soul and it was well worth the price.

After touring with Sufjan Stevens and being a part of The Polyphonic Spree, St. Vincent (aka Annie Clark) went solo in the music scene just a few short years ago with Marry Me and quickly became a success in the indie circles.  Her second album, Actor, was released earlier this year and definitely reaffirmed that her rightful place is in music.

The live show at Ambient did not disappoint.  I believe comments floating around Twitter included “unbelievable” and “amazing.”  Her Jenny Lewis like mix of a smooth voice with more intesnse rock and electronic sounds was a fantastic ending to a soulful weekend at Ambient.

Yelp

Stylish design of Yelp and Ambient Plus.

Recently, the elite reviewers of the Yelp.com community took over Ambient Plus Studio. The space was transformed into a haven for the best of the internet to mingle with one another. Taste buds were tickled with Merry Mac’s famous side dishes, gourmet donuts from Sublime donuts in midtown, soup from Fresh 2 Order, and much more. Spirits were livened with libations from Maker’s Mark, Atlanta’s own Sweetwater brewery, and Savida Sangria (which was like sipping a cool breeze on a summer evening).

A DJ spun tunes throughout the night, but the entertainment highlight was definitely the performance from an Atlanta area dance crew called Royal Flush.  These guys definitely had the skills, and the crowd watched in amazement as they tore up the floor break dancing, flipping, and moving their bodies in ways most of us cannot even fathom.

Memories of the night were captured as friends posed for professional photos in a studio set up in the old elevator shaft of the building.

All in all, it was another great night with Ambient and Yelp!
